Baseline Magazine
University of Westminster 2020
I was assigned a brief to design the baseline magazine in the Typography and Communication module. The baseline magazine is devoted to typography book art and graphic design. I was responsible for designing the cover and dust jacket and picking three typefaces and presenting them in double-page spreads. The typefaces I picked were the Maelstrom type family (Maelstrom and Maelstrom sans serif), November Stencil and Geograph.
For the covers and dust jacket, I incorporated the typeface November stencil and played with the letterform (a), this is because the covers and dust jacket must relate to the content of the magazine. For the dust jacket specifically, I repeated the letter form (a) and connected the letters to form this interesting pattern almost representing a flow. This is because analysing the typeface parts of the letterform has gaps like a standard stencil so thought I could be playful and connect parts together and almost go against the characteristics of the typeface and be experimental. I designed this project using Procreate and InDesign.
